James R Shaw came to Cumnock in 1970 and took over from Miss Helen Hunter at the home practice on Barrhill Road.
In 1977 James moved to current location on Townhead st, Cumnock.
Twin sons Russell and Stewart joined the firm in 1984 when the company name changed to James R Shaw & Sons.
In 1985 branch practices were established at Sanquhar and Thornhill in Dumfriesshire.
In 2000 Alan Beck joined the company.
In 2007 a new practice was opened in Mauchline.
In 2014 James Sansum joined, followed by our newest optometrist Rebecca Hamilton in 2017
